Offensive Explosion Leads Field Hockey to Senior Night Victory

It was a cold and rainy Thursday night as the Bulldogs field hockey team took on the Stoughton Black Knights for Senior Night.

In a great showing of respect to the girls who have given so much to the program the past four years, every member of the graduating class took the field to start.

Despite the cold; the Bulldogs offense was on fire all night.

Maggie Malloy (Jr.) got the scoring started with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half to give the dogs’ a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after, a penalty committed in front of the Black Knight’s net gave the Bulldogs a golden opportunity. They turned to Andrea McNeil (Sr.) who buried the penalty shot for a 2-0 lead.

Canton continued to apply pressure on the offensive end but it looked as though they would have to settle for a 2-0 lead heading into half.

But with just under 3 minutes to play, Molly Cummings (Jr.) ran onto the field from the sideline right in time to capitalize on a loose ball in front of the net for a nice bit of insurance before the half.

The second half was more of the same for the Bulldogs with McNeil adding two more to cap off a fantastic senior night while Malloy added another as well. Riley Brown (Sr.) notched a shutout between the posts.

The 6-0 win helped propel the Bulldogs (13-2-1) to a Davenport division crown for the first time since 2013. The fourth seeded Bulldogs will host either #13 Dartmouth (8-3-5) or #20 Norwood (9-7-2) on Saturday, 11/4 at a time yet to be determined.

What a great way for the girl’s field hockey team to end the regular season on a high note before the tournament. A Davy division title is nothing to shake a stick at so first and foremost congratulations to the team on a banner season.

I did spend the game in the press box so I’m a little light on awards but I’ll do my best.
